Network Like a Pro to be a Trade Show Standout

Building business – whether you’re a large, established company or an up-and-comer just starting out – almost always comes down to relationships. Fostering and growing strong relationships with customers, key opinion-makers, industry leaders, important officials and the like can help a business thrive in good times and bad.

We’ve talked a lot about how printed marketing materials – like business cardsletterheadflyers and more – can help businesses establish these relationships with current and prospective customers. Now it’s time to talk about something bigger…something so big it only comes around once a year for many businesses. I’m talking about trade shows!

Whether you call them as annual meetings, conventions, trade shows or expos – these events have the potential to help businesses of all sizes network with others in their industry, show off their awesome products and services, and build relationships all at the same time.

When prepping for an event like this, small businesses should keep in mind a few of the things we’ve seen here at FedEx Office, where we’re often called upon by exhibitors as they prepare for the big day.

  • Don’t be Afraid to Sell Yourself. These exhibits are all about displaying to current and potential customers what your business has to offer, while showing the competition what they should aspire to be.
  • Approach Your Display with an Eye for Design. The goal at these events is to grab and keep the attention of your audience, so make sure your display is eye-catching while remaining professional.
  • Look the Part. Your business is top-notch, and your exhibit booth and materials should say that to passers-by as well. Just like with your business cards and other daily marketing materials, you should be getting these important display materials professionally designed and printed.

While many customers know FedEx Office has the printing solutions businesses need for traditional marketing materials, I bet a lot of our small business readers might not realize we also have the capability to produce thegraphic display panels and signs used in many trade show booths, like the one featured below.

We recently had a Spring Showcase in our town, where local businesses gathered to highlight their products and services for the community. A customer came to us looking to produce new graphic panels for his custom-made exhibit booth. While the booth’s maker could produce these panels for him, he was pleasantly surprised to learn that having these same panels created locally at my FedEx Office would be just half the price (only $13 a square foot). He was also impressed with the high quality product and quick turn-around time.

For those who might be wondering how we made the booth panels pictured here, the images are printed directly onto styrene (a plastic material) that is available in several thicknesses and a wide variety of size options. Velcro is adhered to the back of the panels so they can be affixed to the booth. This particular customer had the panels printed on the thinner material because it is convenient to transport; it is easily broken down, rolled up, shipped, and reassembled for the next show!
