VaShaun Nicole Enterprises (VNE) is your one-stop shop for book publishing and marketing, founded by VaShaun Mosby. Starting from pre-submission consulting to post-marketing services VNE supports a wide variety of clients. Their mission is to empower small businesses to maximize their economic development, encourage entrepreneurs to expand their enterprises and emphasize excellence in the local community.
VaShaun launched VNE in Lexington, Kentucky back in August of 2015 supporting aspiring authors. Today she prides herself on supporting those same authors while also growing to establish large corporate clients. This success did not come easy for VNE, VaShuan explains, “Owning your own business does not leave much room for flexibility. You must be willing to meet demands of your business and fulfill the responsibility you have to your customers”. Although being a small business owner can be intense, it doesn’t have to be resource intensive. VaShaun clears up one of the biggest misconceptions that stop ambitious entrepreneurs from starting their own business- It’s too expensive to start! “Corporate and community partnerships make entrepreneurship doable and manageable. Leverage local resources that are at your disposal, you will be surprised how affordable it can be”.
VaShaun has established a relationship with her local FedEx Office she calls “priceless.” The employees even know her by name and recognize her voice over the phone. Her local store has printed everything from bookmarks to banners that she provides to potential clients, “Marketing is paramount for us, having the best product to represent my company and clientele is the core of our business value.”

Recently, VaShaun hosted a Barnes and Noble book signing where her marketing materials were lost in transit hours before the actual event. In a panic, she reached out to the closest FedEx Office to help her recreate all her marketing material, “each staff member was extremely accommodating and resourceful. They met every need from inception to print”. Having the correct marketing material was crucial for VNE, “The marketing materials gave our clients and our events a personal and professional touch.” For VaShaun, it was equally important; for she holds her business and the integrity of her business to the highest standards.
Over the past two years of growth, VaShuan said, these five tips have made the most difference in helping to manage her business.
- Staff to your weakness – make sure to hire people who excel in areas you don’t.
- Have a strong & concise business plan – make sure you and your team are equipped to meet your goals.
- Make sure there’s a demand before you meet the need – research the industry to ensure that what you offer is needed.
- Put yourself on your list – it’s easy to get caught up with all the work you have and neglect yourself; therefore, its important you keep your wellbeing in mind.
- Have a clear vision for your business – make sure your mission and plan is solid.
